So some of you might remember a certain project that I put my heart and soul into and it resulted in one of my most memorable characters to date. It was called Sword and Legend, and it was essentially a rough draft script of what my own Slenderman vlog would look like. It's messy, it flat-out stole elements of other Slendervlogs, TribeTwelve being it's biggest inspiration and rip-off. I do love Mal as a character, when I created her I tried to think of what a love child of Noah Maxwell and Zeke Strahm would be like, and it turned out to be a foul-mouthed overprotective grump of a genius/not genius who didn't back down from a challenge. As it's written, SaL isn't perfect and could stand a huge revision, but I'm not sure I have the energy for it. But I was so wrapped up in my own hype that I wanted to make this series into a trilogy in the least. Hence I started the writing of Clever Costume & Co, and Dark Storybook.

CC&C ended up being a chore as I had waaaaay too many strings to string together, so I ended up only writing the basic plot points of the story rather than focus on characters or on the normality of people's lives and oversimplified the story. And because this leads into the much more important story of Dark Storybook, which is never being written, I had to declare CC&C not canon and make SaL a stand alone series, which would make re-writing it to be much easier. So, if you come across CC&C, feel free to read but please ignore it's context. It was a cool idea that I lost steam for.

So, since I'm never writing Dark Storybook, I said that I'd put a summary up of what I was going to make. But put it off because first of all I had lost all steam for it because I couldn't make a good story out of it, and also I wanted it to be a comic book and I just couldn't find or pay or an artist, and also taking a step back and looking at my summaries for it, it's pretty stupid. But some loyal fans wanted to know what it was so, okay, here we go.

Dark Storybook would start about a year after CC&C with Mal escaping her captors and infected about a half way through, and she's paying a visit to her mentor, Mr. Welldone. He's passing away and he has a few things to tell her before he departs. She plays some music for him upon request and he describes the people she's going to need to help her on her mission. And then he dies. So then Mal goes to get the people she'd need to kill the last of Slenderman's proxies. Yep, over the course of a year, Mal has killed anyone claiming to be a proxy to the Slenderman. Including your favorite ones. "So (insert character) is dead?" Yes. "But you can't kill (insert character/s)!" She found a way. Play along please.

So, the first guy Mal goes to get is the easiest one. Remember HHH (Happy Human Hunting, who is in no way a ripoff of HABIT)? Turns out this was an older and more experienced Jeff The Killer. Mal gets him on her side simply because Slendy is stalking him too and not giving him much peace of mind. And this guy, who's pretty in the know, helps her find everyone else she needs. So her team, which is put together simply with the question "He's stalking you too? If you help me out, he'll stop." is such:

  • Jeff the Killer
  • a grinning man
  • a Rake (yes, I said A rake. There's a ton of them in this universe)
  • Mothman
  • an original character of mine named Carson
  • ...was there more? Shit... this was so long ago...
  • The Midwife would occasionally send letters of clues/encouragement
So this team of people who would never get along in a million years set out to take on the proxy group who's name I don't remember at the moment, and their job was essential financial assistance to other proxies. What made these guys so tough was that they weren't human, they were a hybrid mix of human and grinning man (which was what Alpha was, if anyone remembers that asshole), and each proxy had a single power of Slendy's, save for the group leader, The Voice, who had all of them. How? Why? Complicated story about being created to be the group that can defeat Slendy that blew up in the creator's face. So, now you see where I'm going. A more action based story rather than horror.

To make this long story short, our heroes? start picking off the group one by one, all the while telling Mal how stupid this plan was, how she killed all these children for nothing, but she won't hear it. She's driven to protect Val and this is the only way she can see it through. Eventually, it leads to her group of people getting killed until she and the Voice are the only two fighters left. Mal becomes 99% infected, but eventually kills the Voice and essentially every proxy of Slendy's. In her theory, this would mean his supply of followers and power was cut off and that he would fade from existence. But she's wrong. Slendy produces more of them. Inky black figures, reminiscent of the Collective, which represent a new generation of those who follow him. This was the plan. For Mal, who has been called the Mother Of All Monsters, to erase the previous generation of proxies and influence the creation of those who couldn't be easily killed or erased. She has ushered in a new era for the Slenderman and those who follow him, thus making her a mother of sorts to the newer proxies. Enraged by this, Mal tries to fight these new proxies and fails. With her usefulness worn out, Slendy takes away her infection and powers and leaves her be. He simply brings all that she has killed back to life and the ways of the world go on. All these killings and battles she has waged had been for nothing. It had been told to her from the beginning: her plan was stupid and would accomplish nothing BECAUSE YOU CAN'T BEAT THE SLENDERMAN! Succumbing to Slendy's gamma radiation, Mal makes one last hit in her time alive: she kills the Midwife (who, fun fact, was the Radioactive Woman, brought back to life), putting more radiation on her body and causing her to fall over and die somewhere in the woods. The End.

Yeah, after writing all of that out, it's pretty terrible.

Maybe one day, I'll rewrite Sword And Legend in a way that none of this nonsense is ever brought up. Or maybe not, the Slenderman craze has long since died. Who knows? But Mal continues to be a dominant presence online, and I've tried out private projects with her in it. Maybe she herself will make an appearance in something a bit more concrete. We'll have to see.
